Today is the love of my life's 45th birthday! You mean the world to me, babe! I love you with all of my heart! Today is your day and I hope it's a good one, because when you get home tonight Shayna and I have a surprise for you... here is a hint:
OK, so maybe the idea of moving up to Seattle is not such a good idea. It has been raining off and on here in SoCal for the past week. EVERY DAY for the past week! It was supposed to stop today, but as you can see, it hasn't.
Last Monday, Shayna and I headed down to San Diego to visit our good friends, Jenna and Charlie, their 3 year old triplets, William, Elizabeth, Carolyn "Gracie," and 6 month old, Henry. We had a blast! Shayna and I hung out at their soccer practice, had some yummy pizza, and spent the night. We awoke to some rainy weather, but by the time we got the kids dressed and fed, it had all cleared up. So, we headed over to the park. After lunch, we bid our farewells and drove back up to Long Beach. Shayna slept the entire way! It was awesome! I just wish we lived closer to our ole' college buddies!
Here is an awesome video that my brother just sent me! Warning - There are some C-Section scenes that you might not want to watch, so cover your eyes... Enjoy...
Shayna is improving her balancing skills every day! She loves to ride her Skuut all over the neighborhood and everyone in our neighborhood loves to watch her Skuut. Almost everyone we encounter has a comment about her and her bike. Check out this video clip:
My brother, Dennis, and his beautiful wife, Tamara, welcomed 3 healthy boys yesterday morning! Their names are Alec, Colin, and Gage. Alec almost weighed 5 lbs, Colin weighed 5 lbs, and Gage weighed 6 pounds! Pictures to follow in the next couple of days! here's a sneak peek of Alec
Today, I decided that we should go to the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana. We were there almost 2 years ago and I felt that Shayna was too young to really take in the "science" aspect. The last time we were here was in April of 2006, so I figured that she was ready. Some of the exhibits were cool. The one that I thought was cool, was the Coprolite exhibit. For those who do not have a degree in Geology or Paleontology, Coprolite is just fossilized dung! Shayna really thought it was, "Awesome."
We headed inside and on over to the geology exhibit. Shayna scored an A+ today, as she correctly identified the Granite, much to the surprise of the elderly volunteer behind the table. She wanted her camera to take pictures of some quartzite specimens. After some lunch and $20 spent at the Museum store, we made our way to the car in 80 degree heat to find a portion of the Space Shuttle Endeavor. Just a side bar... my grandfather, Sam, had a part in inventing the heat tiles that keep the shuttles cool while re-entry into the earth's atmosphere! He wrote the book! Later this evening, after dinner, Shayna then proceeded to kick our butts in CandyLand. She's just lucky it wasn't basketball!
Last Thursday night I took Shayna to the Long Beach Sports Arena to watch the Disney's Princesses on Ice show. We went with my friends, Lisa and Norma, and their daughters. It was a "G" rated Girls' Night out, so to speak. First we had dinner at CPK at the Long Beach Pike. Then we made our way over to the arena. It was a blast! The girls loved it... and I loved it, too! It was such a joy for me as a mom to see her eyes filled with happiness and excitement. I could just imagine what she was thinking as she saw these Princesses in person. Because I was never really a princess fan growing up, so I needed to ask Lisa what the character names were... Well, now I know and I'm a fan! I asked Shayna which princess was her favorite and she told me Tinkerbell. I know she's not a princess, but she came out a sprinkled pixie dust onto the ice between acts. It was really fun and she doesn't stop talking about princesses now... Here's my little princess all dressed up for the show!
Ever since I let Shayna watch the last 20 minutes of Star Wars, she is completely obsessed with the movie! All she talks about is how bad Darth Vader is. She told me last night that if she ever saw him, she'd kick him. Then I asked her what would happen if he kicked her back, and she told me, "Mommy, he can't kick me back... he's a robot and he doesn't have any feet." Well, some day I will have to show her this picture I found on the internet.
She also told me that she really likes R2D2. I don't know, maybe it's all the beeping... or maybe because he's really short... who knows.. it's really cute! We had a 30 minute discussion about the movie and the characters last night before bed. It was so funny!
I think I really know why she liked the movie... Han Solo is a total babe!
We went to our friend's, Lisa and Mike, house to celebrate New Years on Monday night. It was a blast! We had a great time eating and drinking, although I was the DD which meant no drinks for me - except for the sip of Champagne, a sip of an apple martini, and a sip of limoncello - I think all of that equals one drink in 6 hours.
Camille and Shayna are ready for the celebration!
Here are the kids: (l to r: Shayna, Mason, Luke, & Camille)
I know that this Blog (or Web Log) is titled, "Shayna," but it's really a place for me to write about the daily happenings of the household. I will post a lot of Shayna and William things here. This Blog will be a mixture of both her and other fun things going on the homestead.
