We went to MyGym yesterday and Shayna had a passionate time! A new boy in her class, named Griffen, sat next to her on the mat. Shayna got a little smitten and put her face close to his face, then planted a big kiss! OMG!!! I am NOT ready for this! I thought that I had at least 10 more years to prepare...
Today, Shayna had her soccer class again. I don't have any pictures for you because there was a photographer from the Press-Telegram there taking photos of the kids. I wanted Shayna to get some photo time so I made sure she kicked the ball in his general vicinity.... I'm so bad... Oh well, here's a picture of her after class eating a snack!
On Sunday, our neighborhood City Councilwoman put on a little festival at our local park. They had tons of booths set up, including face painting, which Shayna decided would look better on her hand.
Mark was over at the "all girls school" booth seeking a brochure. I guess Shayna won't date until college - I'm sure that was his motive!
They also had a table full of Play-Doh. I don't know who was having more fun...
Shayna also had her very first Snow Cone. Needless to say, she loved it, until we went over to the firefighter's booth where they were handing out free hot dogs. The Snow Cone was tossed aside, after a few bites from mom... yum! After her hot dog, she wanted to know where her cone went and we told her that it melted and went bye-bye. Note to self, 2 year olds do NOT forget things that easily... and a temper tantrum ensued. We put her in her bike seat and off we went - she was fine once we started our ride home.
After her nap she remembered that her Snow Cone was lost, so off to Rite Aid to get an ice cream cone and other stuff that I had been meaning to get there. She loved it and all was good. I'm such a pushover!
Yesterday was my mom's 61st birthday, but it is hard to celebrate the night of Yom Kippur....so we celebrated tonight, at her favorite restaurant, Mr. Chow, in Beverly Hills. It was fun breaking the fast with Chow Noodles and Crispy Beef...YUM!
On the homefront... it rained like crazy here all last night and this morning... thunder... lightning... downpours... wind... we had it all! It's so funny that Shayna really hasn't seen much rain in her lifetime. I think we had a total of 4 inches last year! We got almost an inch just yesterday! It's so cute how Shayna describes, "Funder." She told us that she heard the "Funder" last night in bed and it scared her. She also said that she could hear the rain, too. I can't believe that she didn't call for us to come into her room because we had a couple of really loud Funder booms!
Today was Shayna's very first Mommy/Daddy & Me Soccer Class. Mark was able to stay home this morning to video tape the first of many soccer exhibitions. I wasn't going to sign Shayna up for the class, but she has really shown us in the past few weeks how good of soccer player she is. She can kick the ball off the ground, on the ground, and even dribble around the lawn with the ball. So, as the case, we shelled out $95 for an 8 week soccer class. I can now officially call myself a, "Soccer Mom!" Now all I need is an SUV... oh wait...
In today's mail, I rec'd an "Official" Los Angeles County jury summons... greaaaat! I called the number on my "official" paperwork and told them that I qualify to be excused. Turns out I got someone on the phone (yes, a real person), she spoke English to perfection, and subsequently got excused. Apparently, if one cares for someone else during the hours of 8am and 5pm, you have an "Official" excuse. It's too bad that I don't live in Las Vegas... there would be NO excuse for me to participate in a jury... especially if it was for the OJ case! GUILTY... no matter what!
Back to soccer... Here's a cute video from Shayna's soccer class today. The coaches had the kids kick their ball to various color coordinated flags with "little" kicks. It was sooooo cute!
Here's a cute one with Daddy
We will be practicing all weekend, if it doesn't rain, with her new "official" ball that we purchased at the sporting goods store, today!
Shayna & I headed out early Sunday morning to catch my cousin Brian's little league game. This is called "Fall Ball" and there isn't a playoff or championship at the end of league play. So basically it's just for fun.
At the field, I caught a glimpse of this sign. Coach Wooden is a genius! After reading that quote, I realized that, for me, that quote is about life... not sports. I guess my priorities are a little different these days!
Shayna has been bugging me ALL week to go ride "horsies." So, I took her to the mall today and did some shopping and horseback riding. She had a blast and I found a really great sale at The Children's Place and Bath & Body Works. It's really starting to cool down here and it's now beginning to actually feel like football season (oops, I mean Fall). Since Mark has been away on business for the past few days, this weekend is Family Weekend. Can't wait!!
Today was Shayna's first day of the "Big Kid" class at MyGym. She is now in the Terrific Tots/Mighty Mites class, which has a totally different format than the younger kid classes. In these classes, she is basically on her own. The kids have to wait their turns on the mat to do various activities. It was a real shocker for her today, but I think she loved it! I can't believe how big she is getting! She's the youngest in her class (which goes up to 4 1/2 years old) and she's taller than 90% of the kids! She is already wearing a size 4T shirt! Shayna tried to take her pigtails out right before I snapped this photo... too funny!
Shayna & I headed over to the Lindsay house yesterday for some playdate fun! Our friend, Jayci, and her son, Luke & baby girl Luciana were also there. It was so cute to watch the kids play so gently with the baby.
Today we are headed over to REI for some fun/shopping for our Baja trip. I have a coupon that's set to expire, so we have to get over there!
Here's a neat picture that I took this morning. Thank the Lord that this was taken outside and the pest control guys are coming Thursday to spray!!! YUCK!
I don't know if it's just me, but the weekend just seems to fly by at light speed! Shayna & I are feeling much better and our cold is just a faint memory, with the exception of a few horrible coughs throughout the day... Our good friend, Ansley, who just so happens to be the Co-Curator at the American Museum of Ceramic Art, invited us to the current exhibit opening night on Saturday. There were some interesting pieces to view, as well as, some yummy hors dourves being served. All in all, it was really fun to see Ansley working hard and meeting her parents! Shayna was very well behaved and did not break anything.
Also on Saturday, we took a trip to Ikea and bought some rolls of paper for Shayna's artist table... which were an inch too long! Darn metric system! I had Mark slice of the end with the table saw! It actually worked! Haha! We also had fun hanging around and dancing, as you can see by this video! I'm not sure who had more fun... Mark or Shayna?
Today, Shayna and I went to the farmer's market with our neighbors Jenny & Larissa and Mark & Shayna swam in our other neighbor's (Joan & Sal) pool! It's so wonderful to be surrounded by really nice people! For dinner, we had some homemade pizza! It just doesn't get any better (I've been cooped up for far too long)! ...and, no, those are not marshmallows on the pizza... it's yummy chunks of mozzarella goodness!
Shayna and I have been stuck in the house for 2 weeks due to our nasty colds! We finally got a break in our hot weather so we got out and played some kickety kick ball in the yard. She had loads of fun!
Most of our days consisted of coloring, painting, Play-Doh, and lots of movies! How do you like my sculpture??? I'm getting pretty good at this! LOL! Today we are going to our favorite art studio to make a mess that I don't have to clean up!
I know that this Blog (or Web Log) is titled, "Shayna," but it's really a place for me to write about the daily happenings of the household. I will post a lot of Shayna and William things here. This Blog will be a mixture of both her and other fun things going on the homestead.
